Dr. Burke attributes his success to his team. He says that he is blessed to have such a great team behind him. Anywhere from the first patient interaction, whether it be a phone call or text message, up to all the way through the completion of a patient’s treatment, his team is there every step of the way.
“I cannot do my job by myself. I really rely heavily on our team. And we create a great patient experience with our team and especially our treatment coordinators who really handle a lot of the dental implant machine interactions. And I rely on them quite a bit to get through all the leads and get patients scheduled, as well as guiding patients through their implant process.”
NEVER PREJUDGE A PATIENT BASED ON YOUR PERCEPTION
Dr. Burke’s advice for dentists is that you should never prejudge a patient. Whether it is based on their appearance or your impression of them, you might be completely wrong about them. Dr. Burke always recommends the ideal treatment plan for each patient, however not everyone is able to get the ideal treatment for them and might need to explore alternatives, however more often than not, the patient that you wouldn’t have thought would go for a type of treatment – ends up signing up for it. It happens all the time, the people you least expect to be able to go through with or afford treatment can be the ones that are ready to start today. Dr. Burke recommends giving everyone an equal chance at having their ideal treatment and never prejudging them or planning treatment based on your perception of whether or not they’ll accept your recommendations.
IF YOUR PATIENT SEEMS LIKE THEY’RE NOT INTERESTED, THEY MIGHT JUST BE EMBARRASSED
Dr. Burke explains that he tries to read people as he meets them and prepares their treatment plans. However, he says that some people are just really hard to read. They’re kind of quiet and reserved and they may be embarrassed. As I’m recommending treatment, they’re really not jumping at it and are just sitting back with not much of a reaction, and they don’t seem really interested. But then when I walk out of the room, my team spends extra time with them and answers all their questions. And sometimes they’ll open up to my treatment planner more than me and end up signing up for treatment. It could be someone who doesn’t look like they have the ability to afford treatment or they just don’t seem like they’re really interested in treatment. But then I end up being surprised and happy to see that they’re going for the most ideal treatment.
